Overall Job Function:
We are seeking a dynamic, highly organized, and results-driven Sales and Procurement Manager for our How to Build Center. The successful candidate will oversee the sales operations, lead the sales team, manage customer relationships, and be responsible for procurement and inventory control. This role requires a mix of strong leadership, exceptional sales acumen, and a comprehensive understanding of supply chain and procurement processes in the hardware and lumber industry.
Essential Job Duties:
Drive sales growth by developing and executing strategies to attract new customers and expand market reach.
Build strong relationships with local businesses, contractors, and community partners to generate leads and drive sales.
Lead and motivate the sales team to deliver excellent customer service and expert product recommendations.
Create and implement promotions, events, and seasonal sales initiatives to increase foot traffic and revenue.
Monitor sales performance, analyze trends, and adjust strategies for continuous improvement.
Ensure optimal inventory levels by managing procurement, negotiating with suppliers, and maintaining strong vendor relationships.
Support the Customer Service Manager in store presentation and merchandising to maximize sales and enhance customer experience.
Collaborate with marketing to develop targeted advertising and outreach efforts.
Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards while optimizing operational efficiency.
Foster a high-performing, customer-focused team through training, mentorship, and goal setting.
Performs write-offs on damaged or obsolete inventory to reflect accurate value of inventory.
Establishes procedures for conducting and valuing year-end physical inventory.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Competencies:
Proven experience as a Sales Manager, Retail Manager, or similar role in a hardware store, lumber yard, or related industry or have the ability to learn.
In-depth knowledge of hardware products, tools, and lumber.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient in inventory management and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Strong negotiation, supplier relationship management, and contract management skills.
Excellent analytical and forecasting abilities to meet product demand.
In-depth knowledge of inventory management and procurement software.
Strong organizational and budgeting skills.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
Proven experience as a Procurement Manager, Buyer, or similar role, preferably in the hardware or lumber industry.
Work Requirements:
This position is based in a fast-paced agricultural setting and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate to loud. PPE will be provided and must be utilized according to safety standards. Typical working hours are based on customer and organizational demand; hours may be long, irregular and include weekends and holidays during peak season.
While performing job functions the employee will be required to talk and hear most of the time. The employee will spend frequent intervals moving and sitting, while also needing to reach, bend, twist, crawl, crouch, stoop or kneel. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and maneuver on and off mobile equipment. The physicality of this job is medium.
