Job Description
Strong candidates will possess and continue to improve the following skill set:
- Builds and maintains strong agency relationships.
- Effectively manages a commercial lines territory to achieve established growth and profit goals.
- Assesses risks and exposures on new and existing business to identify opportunities and maximize assigned territory growth and loss ratio objectives.
- Uses established underwriting guidelines and best practices to write, renew, or modify business.
- Demonstrates the ability to be self-driven, detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization.
- Applies high degree of knowledge of coverages, forms and appetite with the ability to articulate to others.
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with internal sales staff on new business submissions and agency initiatives.
- Create solutions for a broad range of inquiries from brokers and team members.
- Adhere to underwriting rules as demonstrated with appropriate risk selection and proper file documentation.
- Navigate our online broker portal to complete tasks and troubleshoot.
- Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes.
- Work independently within deadlines while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with stakeholders.
- Understand and apply sound underwriting practices and trends.
- Proactively focus on underwriting profitability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of Commercial Underwriting experience.
- Strong understanding of habitational P&C policies preferred.
- Eager for continual learning; professional designations are a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.
- Must be self-driven, detail-oriented, comfortable in an ever-changing industry, and have strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization.
- Demonstrates understanding of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Some travel may be required from time to time for team and broker meetings.
