Farmington Country Club presents an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join our high-volume and fast-paced Food and Beverage Operations team as an Upscale Restaurant Bar Back! Our bar backs consistently deliver high-quality service to our members and their guests in a friendly, professional manner. They are responsible for setting up bars, supporting the bartenders through dinner service, restocking products, ensuring the cleanliness of the bar and lounge areas, and breaking down bars at the end of the shift. An ideal candidate has a background in upscale dining, has wine & beverage knowledge, and is looking to give members and their guests fantastic, personalized service. An ideal Upscale Restaurant Bar Back candidate is available Wednesday-Sunday evenings and is comfortable working inside and outside bar areas within our Upscale Restaurant, the Blue Ridge Room.
The Blue Ridge Room is the location for an exquisite social and dining experience at Farmington Country Club. Featuring a seafood-forward menu, craft cocktails, and a comprehensive wine list, The Blue Ridge Room is Farmington’s go-to outlet for our members looking to celebrate a special occasion or looking for an elevated dining experience. The four areas of the Blue Ridge Room include The Bar, The Porch, The Terrace, and our private dining space, The Wine Room. The Bar is a 21-and-over area with a contemporary design and two flat-screen TVs. The Porch is the primary year-round dining area and the only dining area at Farmington where reservations are taken. The Terrace is the “member favorite” area of the dining room as it provides a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a great atmosphere for a cocktail or dinner from Spring through Fall seasons.
Operation Hours: (Dependent on season)
o Bar (Beverage Service and Bar Menu): Wednesday-Sunday 3 pm-Close
o Restaurant: Wednesday-Sunday 5:30 pm -9:00 pm
*The Blue Ridge Room is closed from January 1st to February 13th. There are other opportunities for full-time employees to make hours during the restaurant closure, but the Blue Ridge Room is closed during that time. In parts of the ‘shoulder’ season (February-March and November-December), the Blue Ridge Room is open Thursday-Sunday.
Pay:
The Upscale Restaurant Bar Back pays a $17 hourly base pay and receives a 10% sales tip from bartenders.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in maintaining and stocking inventory, changing kegs, washing and polishing glassware, bussing and cleaning the bar
• Complete TIPS training within one month of hire.
• Efficiently and continuously restock the bartender area with liquor, ice, fruit, straws, etc., necessary for both guests and bartenders.
• Maintain knowledge of all food and beverage offerings
• Assist with steps of service and ensure quality for members and guests
• Follow all checklists for set-up and clean-up bar duties
• Verify name and account number for every chit and enter information into Northstar.
• At the end of the shift, return all alcohol to the proper location, putting away beverages and rotating stock and inventory as needed
• Maintain neat and clean beverage storage areas
• Card anyone ordering alcohol that looks to be under the age of 30
• Adhere to Virginia ABC Laws.
• Assist in other departments when needed.
• Adhere to Farmington policies
Qualifications
The right candidate for this position:
- Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age;
- Previous bar backing or serving experience in a similar environment preferred
- Available Wednesday-Sunday evenings with preference to work 3-5 shifts a week
- Is personable, professional, and goal-oriented;
- Must have good communication skills;
- Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds;
- Is interested in developing knowledge about wine, beer, spirits
- High level of professionalism is required
