The Opportunity
The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) is currently in search of a dynamic and detail-oriented Finance Associate to join our esteemed finance team. In this role, the chosen candidate will play a crucial part in the processes of accounting, budget preparation, subcontracting, and subgranting.
As a Finance Associate, you will actively collaborate with program staff, facilitating clear communication and teamwork to ensure the smooth exchange of information. You will be responsible for ensuring that all requests submitted to the finance department are processed promptly and accurately, in compliance with the organization's policies and guidelines.
Your role involves not only a keen attention to detail but also the ability to adhere to deadlines, ensuring that financial processes are executed in a timely manner. By maintaining open lines of communication with program staff, you will facilitate a smooth exchange of information, enabling the finance team to meet its objectives effectively.
What you’ll do: (Core responsibilities)
- Create and maintain new projects in the financial and project management systems throughout their life cycle;
- Review Vendor/Consultant contracts and Purchase Orders (POs) in adherence to FAS procurement policy;
- Process payments based on the agreed-upon subagreement payment schedule;
- Monitor outstanding receivables and communicate with Sr. Budget and Contracts Manager;
- Assist in the project closeout process and prepare for annual audits/project-specific audits;
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of all relevant items in the designated location/folder;
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience (Requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to organize paperwork in a methodical manner;
- Discreet, detail-oriented, client-focused, patient, and receptive to acquiring new skills;
- Excellent communication skills, and
- 0-3 relevant years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior work experience from non-profit or government institutions/organizations;
- Familiarity with the 2 CFR 200 uniform guidelines is a valuable asset for this role;
- Demonstrated experience in grant management, encompassing multiple funding sources such as USG, foundations, and other funding sources.
Work Environment
This position will be a hybrid role based in Washington DC, meaning that both remote and in-person work can be accommodated, generally two to three days per week in the DC office, and two to three days per week remote. This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment are subject to collective bargaining.
Salary Range
$60,000 – $65,000
