Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our healthcare team. In this critical role, you will provide exceptional care to expectant mothers during labor and delivery, ensuring a safe and positive experience for both the mother and newborn. You will work collaboratively with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to monitor the health of patients and respond to any complications that may arise.
Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor the physical and emotional needs of laboring patients.
- Administer medications and perform medical procedures as needed, including injections and specimen collection processing.
- Utilize aseptic techniques during all procedures to maintain a sterile environment.
- Conduct physical examinations and provide education to patients regarding labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
- Assist with gastric lavage and catheterization as required.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans for patients.
- Document patient progress accurately in medical records.
- Provide support to families during labor and delivery, addressing their concerns and questions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Qualifications
- Current nursing license in the state of practice.
- Experience in an inpatient setting, particularly in Labor and Delivery or ICU preferred.
- Proficiency in MDS (Minimum Data Set) documentation is a plus.
- Familiarity with DME (Durable Medical Equipment) usage in patient care.
- Strong skills in administering injections and conducting specimen collection processing.
- Knowledge of physical examination techniques relevant to obstetric care.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on patient education.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
