Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The J.W. Seabrook Auditorium falls under the organizational structure of Business Services within the Business and Finance Division. The J.W. Seabrook Auditorium is the primary administrative focus for the operation, promotion, and maintenance of the artistic endeavors of all university students and faculty and the presentation of non-revenue generating special events, which complement other activities and enrich our local and campus community. The J.W. Seabrook Auditorium was designed as an educational facility to enhance and further the performing arts on the campus by coordinating and administering performing arts technical services and/or facilities/program management, and the teaching and supervising of students learning the art.
The state-of-the-art facility serves as a training ground for those students interested in managing arts equipment and products. Required classes are conducted providing students hands on experience thru the design of production components of the performing arts, the creation of production components of the performing arts, demonstrating the technical use of lighting and audio/video equipment, and the safe and proper use of power and hand tools. The J.W. Seabrook Auditorium fully integrates the Fayetteville State University’s academic performing arts departments into its programming. This facility enhances the quality of learning and provides the training ground for the institution’s performing arts students in theatre and music. Through an academic program covering all aspects of theatre and music study and production, the Auditorium strives to provide a complete theatrical and musical education. The educational and performance activities such as “Philadanco”, “Alice in Wonderland”, “Show Time at Seabrook”, etc. are student centered culminating into live performances before diverse audiences. Student attendance at many of the productions and events held at the Auditorium is a requirement for grading purposes. In addition to the FSU Theatre, the J.W. Seabrook Auditorium also serves as home for the University Student Concert Choirs, the FSU Symphonic Band, the FSU Jazz Ensemble, the N.C. Theatre Conference, the N.C. Orchestra Festival, and the Chancellor’s Speaker Series of events.

Primary Purpose of Position:
Ensures on-site presence for the opening and closing of the facility for all scheduled academic classroom settings for class credits, student activity office events, performing & fine arts shows, Chancellor’s Speaker Series, university-sponsored events, and community involvement events. Position services the University by working with faculty and staff members to coordinate and administer performing arts technical services and/or facilities/program management, as well as the teaching and supervising of students learning art. The individual is to also perform work with the front-of-house and back-of-house activities throughout the duration of each scheduled event. The position performs technical work in installing and maintaining sophisticated stage lighting, sound, projection, rigging, and related systems to meet client needs for stage productions and other activities.
Works through a crew of laborers engaged in performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled production needs of events at the J.W. Seabrook Auditorium; facilitates all technical and house management aspects for all concerts, recitals, lectures, films, and classes throughout the seasons. Responsible for checking the user’s rental form for “technical riders”; determine in advance set-up requirements, including chairs, stands, sound, lighting, and any additional equipment for each artist or performing group. Work with faculty members, students, university staff, outside clients, and/or promoters to design, create, and develop production requirements.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in public health or public health education, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Two years of experience in stage rigging, audio-visual equipment operation and supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year experience in computer software and hardware for audio-visual systems.

- Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on theatre equipment and facilities, including rigging systems, scene shop machinery, and tools.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of audio and lighting equipment used in dramatic productions; ability to train and direct a stage crew in setting up and properly operating lighting and audio equipment during events.
- Ability to work with other maintenance personnel and entertainers in the planning and setting up of stages and equipment for performances; must be in good health and have physical endurance for constant activity; initiative and flexibility in a
- demanding and rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; plan, develop, schedule, and supervise the technical support required for each event; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; train and supervise staff.
- Evaluate the need for preventative and corrective maintenance; prepare reports; prioritize assignments.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships; maintain irregular and extended hours.
Two years of experience in stage rigging, audio-visual equipment operation and supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year experience in computer software and hardware for audio-visual systems.
