What are the responsibilities and job description for the Base Engine Calibration Manager position at FCA?
Powertrain Calibration Engineering is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to fulfill the role as Base Calibration Manager. The Base Calibration Manager is responsible for leading a group of engineers, conducting performance reviews, mentoring new engineers to ensure propulsion systems function. The Base Calibration Manager will plan resources, timelines and lead base calibration development work for a group of 5-10 engineers.
The Base Calibration Manager is responsible for overseeing the team that generates optimal base engine calibrations meeting all the program objectives in terms of performance, control stability, lowest fuel consumption whilst minimizing the engine out and tailpipe emissions levels. The setup and control of all engine sensors and actuators for all engine operating conditions under both steady state and transient engine operation is part of the team’s responsibilities. The calibration manager is also responsible for confirming the team successfully completes the required engine hardware and systems testing and supporting all other teams with their standardized and specialized engine test requests. The responsibilities will be carried out across all the different propulsion system concepts and will include varying levels of electrification of the driveline.
The calibration manager will oversee the team’s coordination of day-to-day activities of an engine and powertrain dynamometer and collaboration with technicians and laboratory support engineers. In addition, test plans and timelines will be developed, and reports generated to communicate the status of the program to the larger development and management teams. Evaluations will occur with new engine hardware and powertrain technologies for future and carry over applications. Data analysis oversight to solve complex system problems as they relate to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration development.
This individual will have also demonstrated the ability to work well with others. They must be a team player, supporting and promoting team accomplishments versus personal achievement.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics from an accredited university
Minimum of 10 years combined work experience in the area of powertrain development and/or calibration
Minimum of 3 years of prior experience leading a team
Knowledge of electrified powertrain fundamentals
Advanced understanding of gasoline engine efficiency, performance, and emissions
Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data
Experience root causing first install conformance (functional schematics, wiring, CAN, facilities, calibration)
Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently
Knowledge of standard and regulatory test procedures
First principle thinking - Ability to analyze upcoming issues into first principles
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering from an ABET accredited university
5 years of prior experience leading a team
Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) proactive engineering methods
Experience using test cell automation to conduct unattended testing
Experience in Powertrain Control solution development (powertrain control algorithms, On-board Diagnostics/ OBD, embedded software)
Strong knowledge of the propulsion system (hardware, calibration, controls)
System development experience in airflow, combustion, thermodynamics, or aftertreatment areas
Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques
Proficient in Matlab / Simulink and propulsion system control theory
EOE / Disability / Veteran
