What are the responsibilities and job description for the Casting and Structures Specialist - Propulsion/Transmissions position at FCA?
The Automatic transmission and driveline design and release specialist for castings and structures will be responsible for leading design and development of their specific discipline with the ability of developing clean sheet designs as well as proposing solutions for quality/warranty, cost reduction, increased capability, and vehicle architectural changes . He/she will work in the COE (council of excellence for automatic transmission aluminum housings . Provide technical support and leadership within the transmission and driveline product release center engineering team for given propulsion system components .
Key Responsibilities:
Design and release responsible of key structural components and performance standards
Lead and ensure key components design best practices , lessons learned and continuous improvements are followed and integrated into product design release process
Lead technical infrastructure lead for key components , documentation, specifications , requirements definitions and drawing signoffs for key supplied components
Lead and support warranty and quality related topics
Promote i ntellectual property identification and development
Coaching , training and mentoring less experienced engineers
Basic Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in propulsion systems, automatic transmissions or related field
E xperience in large castings (case, bell housings), ability to work with casting supplier to ensure FTQ (first time quality) target is achieved.
Excellent knowledge of casting process, magma flow analysis and solidification models
Understanding of System r equirements e ngineering required for customer functions within the e lectric d rive gear reducer and automatic transmission systems
Working knowledge of all transmission architectures (CVT, DDCT, manual, planetary automatic & hybrids
E xperien ce author ing system/component level requirements for suppliers
Strong interpersonal communication and team leadershi p skills . Comfortable with presenting to executive leadership team
Ability to travel globally to suppliers
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in mechanical engineering or similar
W orking level experience with casting and machining suppliers
Greenbelt or Blackbelt DFSS certification
