Job Description
At FCI – The Language Experts, we are dedicated to supporting our community with breaking language barriers. We are currently looking for dedicated freelance editors to join our Quality Assurance (QA) team. QA Specialists review translated materials against their original source documents to ensure adherence to guidelines and overall accuracy. They work closely with our Project Management team to ensure the best possible quality outputs.

Key Responsibilities
- Performs quality assurance process to maintain quality of deliverables, following all applicable guidelines, client preferences, and internal instruction
- Completes a line-by-line edit of translated documents against their original source document, making edits to formatting, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and incorrect text
- Annotates files with comments for any unclear translations that need bilingual expert review
- Creates and/or adjusts layout in Microsoft Word to ensure the translation visually looks like a replica of the original document
- Conducts the research necessary to adhere to quality standards
- Manages and prioritizes workload to effectively meet deadlines and quality standards
- Communicates effectively and clearly with internal team to coordinate timely updates and best possible deliverables
Requirements
- Education and experience—at least one of the following is required:
- Higher education degree in English, Communication, Writing, Editing, or equivalent
- Higher education degree from a recognized institution in any field accompanied by at least two (2) years full-time experience providing written editing services
- At least five (5) years full-time experience providing written editing services
- Language: Native or near-native proficiency in English required; bilingual or multilingual is a plus
- Advanced knowledge of and comfort with the English language localized for the United States—able to easily spot grammar, spelling, and punctuation issues
- Cultural competence with US English
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Word (knowledge of revision tools required; i.e. Track Changes, Comments) and navigating online interfaces
- Interest and ability to read content in a variety of subject matters (medical, legal, financial, technical)
- Comfortable and adept at research to supplement knowledge gaps and ensure accuracy
- Attention to detail and dedication to meeting deadlines
- Effective multi-tasking and time management skills
- Strategic critical thinking and complex problem solving skills
- Ability to take direction and thrive from feedback
This freelance position is remote, with a paid training period. After training, jobs are offered and accepted by each freelancer based on availability, with regular work anticipated to be available for claiming during US business hours.
