Operations Research Scientist I-III

Job Summary

Analyzes existing business system and designs business models and software applications. Develops models and applications based on advanced analytical methods and facilitates communications between Operations Research and end-users. These models and applications will enable informed, data-driven decisions and insights for efficiently running, planning, and transforming the business.

Essential Functions

• Implements advanced analytical techniques such as mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and simulation to drive industry leading concepts to solve complex business problems • Programs and designs the business operational models and software applications • Constructs new approaches and methodologies to enhance the business models • Manages, manipulates, and visualizes data for new and enhanced business operational models • Responsible for performing unit and system testing, including monitoring, and validating test results • Writes technical documentation in accordance with business framework • Develops ad hoc reports and big data analysis according to management requests • Collaborates with business analysts, field personnel, and other departments for problem resolutions

Minimum Education

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or related field required; in addition to minimum experience, a Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of experience in operations research and / or software development with exposure to object-oriented languages and mathematical/rule-based modeling is accepted in lieu of Master’s degree.

Minimum Experience

• Advanced application (can be through education / coursework) of two or more of the following: Java, SAS, SQL, and/or Python to analyze or design business models and software applications. • Advanced application (can be through education / coursework) of two or more commercial optimization, simulation, ML or supply chain modeling engines and languages such as: CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress, ESRI, Simio, AnyLogic, Tensorflow, Scikit Learn or Supply Chain Guru to analyze business problems

Required Skills, Abilities and / or Licensure

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills • Working knowledge of Operations Research (OR) and Analytics models • Working knowledge of cloud computing in environments such as Azure, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services • Working knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI or d3.js • Experience explaining complex and/or confidential information via both verbal and written means. • Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver information sessions to groups and /or individuals. • Time management and organizational skills necessary to appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs. • Experience anticipating and identifying problems and using judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions

This is a corporate position that is domiciled in Pittsburgh, PA. Remote locations will be considered with appropriate approvals.

Pay Range: $89,024 - $170,352 per year

Salary information represents the full potential base pay range associated with this job. Actual starting pay would be determined commensurate with experience and relative to pay levels at the location. An employee may also be eligible for additional pay programs, such as geographic and/or incentive pay. These programs do not apply to all jobs or all locations.
