POSITION: School-Based Mental Health Therapist
The School-Based Therapist provides mental health services to students within a school setting. This includes individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and consultation with school staff and parents. The therapist aims to promote a healthy school environment that supports academic and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individual Therapy:
- Conduct assessments to identify students' mental health needs.
- Provide individual counseling sessions to address emotional, behavioral, and psychological issues.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Group Therapy:
- Facilitate group therapy sessions for students with similar issues (e.g., anxiety, social skills, anger management).
- Develop group therapy curriculum and materials.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Respond to mental health crises and provide immediate support and intervention.
- Develop and implement crisis intervention plans and safety plans.
- Consultation and Collaboration:
- Work closely with teachers, school counselors, administrators, and parents to support students’ mental health.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss students' progress and needs.
- Provide training and resources to school staff on mental health topics.
- Case Management:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and treatment plans.
- Coordinate with external mental health providers and community resources as needed.
- Monitor and evaluate students’ progress towards treatment goals.
- Preventive Services:
- Develop and implement preventive mental health programs and activities.
- Conduct workshops and presentations on mental health topics for students, staff, and parents.
- Education: Master's degree in Counseling or Social Work
- License Required: LSW or LPC,
- License Preferred: LISW or LPCC
- Experience: Previous experience in a school setting or working with children and adolescents is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical assessment and intervention skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff and parents.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
- Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Director of Student Services, School Principal, or assigned supervisor.
- Commensurate with education, licensure, and experience.
