Fenwick High School is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory high school. Founded in 1929 by the Dominican Friars, this private school of over 100 faculty and staff is dedicated to empowering our students to grow intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically in a disciplined and diverse environment. The school offers a rigorous academic program, including college prep, honors and AP coursework, as well as a variety of clubs, athletics and service opportunities.
Job Purpose:
Fenwick High School is seeking a full-time Choir Director to join our faculty for the 2025-26 school year. The Choir Director provides choir instruction, leads Fenwick’s choir ensembles, and coordinates logistics for choir programming at Fenwick. The Choir Director encourages students of all skill levels to develop and share their love for music, in support of Fenwick’s mission to educate and empower students to lead, achieve, and serve. The Choir Director position is a full-time faculty position that may include up to five (5) classes and one (1) supervision period daily, as well as responsibility for all co-curricular activities related to the choir program, including leadership of school choir performances.
Schedule:
Faculty are generally expected to be present in the building from 7:45 a.m. - 3:25 p.m., Mondays - Fridays, unless approved by the Principal. This position includes responsibility for school choir performances, competition participation, and rehearsals, and some evening and weekend commitments will be required.
Job Function:
Understand curriculum expectations; prepare for all classes and instruct effectively for students; rehearse with school choir ensembles and prepare students for competitions, performances, and other school events.
Coordinate logistics related to the choir program, including for rehearsals and performances; collaborate with other faculty and staff who support choir programming at Fenwick.
Assist with recruitment and hiring for staff who support Fenwick’s choir program, including voice instructors and accompanists.
Assist with music at school Masses, including rehearsals.
Select appropriate repertoire for student practice and performance.
Lead co-curricular activities affiliated with the school choir program; direct extracurricular a cappella or vocal jazz ensemble.
Provide consistent, fair, and timely grading and feedback for students on learning activities and assessments aligned with course curricular and instructional goals.
Demonstrate professionalism as a teacher by being on time to all classes; not leaving students unattended; dress and act appropriately in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
Collaborate with colleagues in instructional practice, and seek continuous professional growth.
Support students’ success by communicating effectively with students, parents and guardians, including by keeping Schoology and other systems updated every two weeks at a minimum, corresponding via email, and attending other school events as required.
Promptly attend all required meetings, professional development days, and school assemblies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, Music, Voice, or a related field. (Master’s degree preferred)
Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) preferred.
Prior experience as a choir director or music educator, and/or prior teaching experience required. High school teaching experience is preferred.
Knowledge of choral repertoire, techniques, and music theory. Proficiency in piano preferred.
Ability to use technology in instruction and for student learning; familiarity with 1:1 iPad use in the classroom a plus.
Ability to lift and set up sound and performance equipment.
Commitment to student growth
Preferred experience or knowledge in the Catholic faith.?
Salary Range: Targeted at $45,000 - $60,000; qualifications and years of experience will be considered.
