Fenwick High School is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory high school. Founded in 1929 by the Dominican Friars, this private school of over 100 faculty and staff is dedicated to empowering our students to grow intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically in a disciplined and diverse environment. Job Purpose:
This is an anticipated, part-time position for the 2025-26 school year.
The Library Media Specialist supervises and maintains Fenwick’s John Gearen Library and its print and digital resources, creating a Library environment conducive to study, learning, and teaching for students and faculty. Committed to students’ success, the Library Media Specialist supports students’ use of Library resources while encouraging students to grow as critical thinkers, skillful researchers, and enthusiastic readers. The Library Media Specialist also collaborates with faculty to support students’ learning and the effective integration of Library resources into classroom instruction. By providing effective instructional support, the Library Media Specialist advances Fenwick’s mission to educate and empower students to lead, achieve, and serve.
Schedule:
This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position (30 hours per week). Fenwick High School is seeking candidates able to work a regular schedule with hours set between 7:15 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Mondays - Fridays.
Job Function:
Supervise the Library to ensure a welcoming and focused environment for learning.
Develop and maintain clear and effective Library policies and procedures, including procedures for the circulation and return of Library materials.
Ensure that the Library is organized and well-maintained; encourage students’ interest in reading through cultivation of effective Library displays.
Collaborate with teachers to support effective and engaging classroom instruction.
Provide professional development opportunities for teachers to develop familiarity with Library resources.
Assist students and faculty with use of Library technology and databases; provide research support for students and faculty.
Develop and maintain the library collection (circulating, reference, periodicals, and online resources) to support the school curriculum.
Maintain an accurate Library catalog.
Review and evaluate the purchase of library resources, including books, periodicals, research databases, and other digital resources to support student learning.
Manage the Library budget; work inside funds allocated for collection development, programming, and Library supplies.
Organize Library programs to encourage students’ interest in reading.
Maintain knowledge of current developments in the field of Library Science, as well as texts and resources of interest to students and of relevance to their learning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in a related area (e.g., Library Science or Library and Information Science) preferred.
Illinois PEL with Library Information Specialist endorsement preferred.
Previous experience working with high school students in a school setting preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Must be proficient with technology and have a sound understanding of current digital databases.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to establish good rapport with students, faculty, and administration.
Preferred experience or knowledge in the Catholic faith.
Salary Range: Salary for this part-time position will be prorated for the schedule worked, based on a target annual full-time salary of $45,000-$60,000; qualifications and years of experience will be considered.
