Job Summary
The Specialty Folder Gluer Operator is responsible for all activities associated with running the BOBST Specialty Folder Gluer machine to manufacture a variety of corrugated boxes. Duties include setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations for optimum production and quality.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Accurate and efficient set-up of the machine in accordance with proper setup techniques of BOBST Specialty Folder Gluer machine.
- Properly operate machines to run efficiently, produce quality products and maximize machine utilization.
- Assist in training of other machine positions.
- Check the quality of boxes during the run, including - misslotted boxes, loose liner, misprints, and any other defects.
- Complete quality checklist on each factory ticket.
- Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
- Adheres to production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, and service goals. Reports any unusual scheduling issues to Supervisor.
- Keeps work area neat and clean.
- Follow established department policies, procedures, work instructions, and safety and environmental guidelines.
- Follow all PPE policies, including gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection as required.
- Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION High school diploma/GED required.
Experience
- Minimum (3) years in machine operation with Specialty Folder Gluer machine (including knowledge of corrugated displays, 4-corner trays, and auto-lock bottom boxes). Experience with BOBST highly desired
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry is required.
- Understanding of equipment function and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret product layouts, product specifications, and production specifications.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions.
- Ability to use specific computer software to enter and utilize information in our computer business systems.
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have the ability to perform basic mathematics including additions, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude through prior work experience.
- Demonstrates ability to use rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment.
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
- Ability to work independently and as a team player in a team-oriented environment.
- Assist other areas as needed to maintain a team approach.
- Ability to effectively manage time and meet set targets and deadlines.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, job packets, blueprints, measurements, and production specifications accurately.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, and reaching throughout the shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder motions for extended periods.
- Requires use of arms for overhead reaching, pulling, and handling materials during machine setup and operation.
- Must have the ability to climb, kneel, and stoop to access machine components during setup and maintenance.
- Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, including heat during the summer months.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precise machine adjustments.
- Must be able to visually inspect products for quality, requiring close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection, for extended periods.
- Ability to stand and remain active for a full shift.
