Summary
Consultants and Senior Consultants at Fibersmith are primarily responsible for designing and developing efficient new fiber builds or network additions. This involves creating construction maps, Bills of Materials, permitting and staking requirements, and managing project interfaces with customers, team members, and leadership. By combining deep technical knowledge with a focus on cost-effectiveness and functionality, you will ensure our clients receive best-in-class solutions that transform how communities connect.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborative Leadership
Work within a team environment, serving as a lead on large-scale fiber projects and guiding project execution. - Network Design & Optimization
Generate designs based on customer requirements, devise methods to improve existing designs, and develop network layouts using field data for staking, permitting, contracting, and construction. - Project Coordination
Maintain and update designs, drawings, and related documentation in Fibersmith’s document management system.
Assist in creating accurate cost projections to support decision-making, contracts, and construction. - Technical Expertise
Stay knowledgeable about relevant products and technologies (opto-electric, laser, fiber optics).
Run analyses on fiber routes and network assets (e.g., homes in proximity to the fiber plant). - Field Data Collection
Oversee or assist in collecting data on poles, foreign utilities, and other features using Trimble, Topcon, Ike, or similar equipment.
Generate field maps and digital maps that reflect customer requirements. - Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Identify, meet, and exceed client expectations regarding service quality, project delivery, revenue, and sales goals. - Professional Standards
Provide services in a professional manner, adhering to all Fibersmith standards.
Perform other duties as required to ensure project success.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in GIS software, CAD, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to innovate, troubleshoot, and problem-solve in a dynamic setting.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (in a related field) and High School diploma, plus 3 years of practical OSP design experience (FTTH preferred).
- Demonstrated experience with Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Notices, and other engineering documentation.
- Willingness to travel up to 10–15% for industry events, site visits, or team meetings.
