What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Operator (Take-Off) position at Fibrix?
PURPOSE
Responsible for packaging materials as it comes off the line and assisting the Line operator thread material through the Line.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Before beginning work, make sure all guards are in good repair and in the proper locations.
- Communicate with the QC tech for information about each order (number of rolls, bag lengths, number of bags, and special packaging instructions.) Check the Customer Reference Manual for special instructions.
- Restock unwind stand with plastic bags. Put empty cores in trash bin.
- Cut bags for production runs. Keeping tail length to a minimum. Store neatly.
- Doff rolls at the specified length and bag them as designated by the order and take to the scale.
- Bag edge trim and take to the baling area.
- Insert cores when required.
- If necessary, monitor print application and adjust print heads or reposition system if necessary.
- If necessary, monitor wet tack application. Keep the over-waxer clean of oil and replace the cover when not in use.
- If necessary, monitor dry tack application.
- Make recommendations by notifying supervisor, to correct problems that could hinder a machine’s performance, reduce output, or affect quality.
- Make sure material is tracking and knives are cutting correctly. Communicate any problems to the QC Tech or the Line Operator.
- Continuously inspect the material for nonconformance, such as thin spots, trash, tears, color streaking, wet spots, lumps, etc. Inform the QC Tech of any quality problems immediately.
- Assist QC Tech in measuring and checking widths of rolls.
- Always stay accessible to the work area.
- Compare the product being produced to the hand sample.
- Make sure edge trim is kept at a minimal.
- Transfer scrap material to baler.
- Turn bottom sprays on or off when appropriate.
- Keep a clean and orderly workplace. Be responsible for housekeeping around line, tube and plastic storage areas, Brush oven slats when needed. Empty trash receptacles.
- Perform other duties as assigned by department supervisor/lead person.
- Control further processing, delivery or installation of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
