Location: Nashville, TN
Contract Type: 13-week contract
Shift: Nights (06:45 PM - 07:15 AM), 3x12 hour shifts per week
Qualifications:
- 2 years current Oncology or Med/Surg nursing experience.
- Valid TN RN or compact license.
- Current AHA BLS certification.
- Experience in oncology nursing, managing patients with solid tumors, leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and gynecologic malignancies.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
This is an oncology floor focused on providing care for patients with various types of cancers and related conditions. The patient population includes those diagnosed with solid tumors (including lung, breast, colon), leukemia, lymphomas, myeloma, gynecologic malignancies (primarily ovarian and cervical), and hematologic diseases. Additional care involves cancer symptom management, febrile neutropenia, uncontrolled pain, sickle cell anemia, and postoperative care for mastectomy and gynecological oncology patients. The unit also serves as a Med/Surg overflow unit.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Provide direct nursing care for oncology patients, including those with solid tumors, blood cancers, and gynecologic malignancies.
- Administer treatments, medications, and support cancer symptom management.
- Assist in managing complex medical conditions like febrile neutropenia, uncontrolled pain, and sickle cell anemia.
- Monitor and care for postoperative patients following mastectomy or gynecological surgeries.
- Manage the care of patients in the Med/Surg overflow unit, supporting various medical and surgical needs.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Ensure clear communication with the oncology team, patients, and families regarding treatment plans and updates.
Assessment & Monitoring:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ physical, emotional, and psychological status.
- Monitor vital signs, lab results, and other diagnostic information to adjust care plans as needed.
Patient Education & Support:
- Educate patients and families on cancer treatments, symptom management, and self-care practices.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients dealing with the challenges of cancer treatment.
Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to safety standards, infection control procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper documentation of patient care and outcomes.
