Job Title : Tool Maker / CNC Machinist (3rd Shift)

Reports To : Technical Manager or Maintenance Manager

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt, Hourly (Union)

Supervisory Responsibilities : No – Individual

Position Summary :

Requires considerable trades education & experience. Responsibilities include handling, maintaining and building patterns & core box tooling. Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating both manual (Drill Press, Engine Lathe, Bridgeport Mill) and computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. (Prototrak Manual / CNC) Maintaining quality and safety standards and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities :

• Pull / Store daily Foundry production tooling (patterns, core boxes) per schedule. Inspect, review & repair as necessary.
• Plans machining process using blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
• Plans tools & supplies inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
• Programs Prototrak mill, including zero and reference points; setting tool offsets, tool compensation, calculating speed and feeds, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
• Use of overhead hoists and fork truck for material movement.
• Responsible for making recommendations regarding process improvements as well as new technology.
• Support various departments / personnel as required.
