The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will normally work Monday through Friday between 6:00am to 6:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break - no more than 40 hours a week. These hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution.
Qualifications
Physicians Assistant:
The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contractor will be performing. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the Adults in Custody (AIC) population wear.
Duties And Responsibilities
All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Nurse Practitioner services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioners performance shall be monitored by the Contracting Officers Representative (COR). The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

- Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquires, Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
- Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
- Estimate Pay: $56.00 to $60.00/hour.
- Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80-hours per year, occurring on day one.
- Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56-hours per year, occurring on day one.

Qualifications
Physicians Assistant:
- Be a graduate from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Have successfully completed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination.
- Maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
- Must possess proof of a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a physician assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
- Must have a current ACLS certification
- One year of experience providing mid-level provider services in emergency care, acute care, ambulatory/outpatient care, psychiatric care, and/or medical/surgical care
- Hold a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Have successfully passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
- Maintain status as a licensed nurse practitioner, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
- Must proof of current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:
- Comprehensive assessments and management of uncomplicated acute and stable chronic health problems of inmates
- Assisting and working collaboratively with the physician in management of selected complex medical problems
- Performing initial comprehensive medical and psychosocial screenings
- Performing physical examinations and risk evaluations of inmates
- Performing basic dental examinations and detecting abnormalities of the teeth and gums
- Performing mental health evaluations including the ability to screen for suicidal risk
- Conducting daily sick call
- Assisting the physician and other providers with procedures
- Administering medications
- Obtaining intravenous access for administration of intravenous fluids and/or medications
- Providing a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician, including primary care for trauma and life-saving procedures
- Performing minor surgical procedures, such as incision and drainage, suturing of lacerations, removal of cysts, and removal/repair of ingrown toenails
- After consultation with the physician, prescribing medications and treatment for illnesses
- Establishing diagnostic impressions and requesting appropriate diagnostic tests (e.g., laboratory, x-ray, visual acuity, electrocardiogram, etc.)
- Interpreting results and selected laboratory findings including, but not limited to, urinalysis, complete blood counts, metabolic panels, and various cultures for bacterial infection and antibiotic susceptibility
- Ordering and/or interpretating audiologic testing and screening of distance and near vision as well as colorblindness
- Providing preliminary interpretation of radiographs, including dental radiographs, to identify gross abnormalities such as fractures, displacements, etc.
- Interpretating electrocardiogram tracings and having the ability to detect cardiac abnormalities
- Functioning as a member of a primary care team under the direction of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and providers
- Entering pertinent clinical information in an electronic medical record system in a timely manner and following proper documentation procedures
