The Assistant Professor of Nursing (non-Nurse Practitioner) position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Hood College's Department of Nursing within the Ruth Whitaker Holmes School of Behavioral and Health Sciences. Nursing faculty are responsible for curriculum development, course coordination and instruction, evaluation of student progress, student advisement, service to the college, department and profession, and scholarship of discovery, practice, and / or teaching.
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide competent instruction in the clinical and theoretical area of nursing that includes student evaluation and advising in didactic and clinical practice.
- Maintain high standards and promote excellence in education.
- Teach across multiple areas with a focus on fundamentals of nursing practice, medical and surgical nursing of adults, health assessment, pathophysiology and pharmacology.
- Promote student development through enrichment and mentoring experiences.
- Participate in and contribute to the team-teaching of classroom and clinical courses and model team-enhancing behavior for students.
- Promote positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, businesses, industries, and agencies.
- Provide service, including committee membership, at the program, department, and college levels as applicable.
- Continue professional development in scholarship, teaching, and community service.
- Maintain clinical expertise and professional knowledge.
- Provide curriculum instruction and program development.

Education
An unencumbered license as a registered nurse eligible to practice in the state of Maryland and teaching experience in nursing are required. If candidate is an APRN, current certification and practice experience is required. A doctoral degree in a nursing field is required. A background in teaching a variety of nursing courses is preferred.
Technology Skills
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and use of internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting, and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost-effective decisions regarding programs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $72,000 to $80,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant's skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation for work completed beyond the minimum contracted teaching load may be provided. Hood College has provided a compensation range representing its good faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
