What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher position at Field School?
An Assistant Teacher supports Tier 1 instruction and in-class Tier 2 instruction in collaboration with the classroom Teachers in our elementary schools. An Assistant Teacher collaborates with the lead teacher to deliver engaging and effective lessons, ensuring a well-organized and supportive classroom environment. They assist in planning and implementing instructional activities, as well as managing classroom behavior and providing individualized support to students. The Assistant Teacher helps assess student progress and contributes to creating a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere. This is a temporary position, seven hours per day, for the rest of the 2024-25 school year, reporting to the building principal. About the Weston Public SchoolsThe Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 160 students (K-12).
Key Responsibilities- Embrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion
- Provide Tier 1 instruction to the whole class, small groups, and individual students as needed
- Monitor routines and procedures for the smooth operation of the classroom and the efficient use of time
- Use questions, prompts, and discussion techniques to challenge students cognitively, advance high-level thinking and discourse, and promote metacognition
- Communicate and collaborate with staff and families to foster student success
- Assist the classroom teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual student needs, interests, and abilities
- Cover for the regular classroom teacher as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree required
- Massachusetts teaching license preferred
- Experience working with school-aged students, ideally in a diverse public school
- Competent with technology, including Microsoft Office, and Google Suite
The Assistant Teacher will be paid $35.39 per hour, for time worked.
