Reporting organisationally to the FIFA26 Director, Medical Administration and FIFA Tournament Medical Lead, the Medical Services Manager will be a key member of the FIFA26 Medical Services team, and work in close collaboration with the Medical Tournament Lead and other key individuals responsible for defining a clear process by which participating teams can access priority care of highest international standards and other key participant groups (VIP Guests, Workforce) can access non-emergency specialist care and primary/family care as defined in the FIFA Medical Handbook and defined in the operational plan.
THE POSITION
The main responsibilities and oversights of the Medical Services Manager for the FIFA World Cup 26™ include:
- The Medical Services Manager is responsible for the management and provision of medical services to participating teams at the FIFA World Cup 26™ and FIFA Club World Cup 25™ according to the FIFA Medical Handbook and the Concept of Operations Plans plan under supervision by the Director, Medical Administration, Senior Manager, Medical Services and FIFA Tournament Medical Lead and in close collaboration with the FIFA Venue Medical Officers (VMOs) US.
- The Manager, Medical Services ensures the required availability of medical staff, transports (ambulances, air rescue etc.), access to emergency wards etc.), and other medical services as well as the training of the health care professionals at stadiums, Team Base Camps and Team Hotels.
- Support of the FIFA Senior Manager, Medical Services in all administrative and operational matters.
- The Manager, Medical Services collaborates closely with the Senior Medical Services Managers in Mexico and Canada.
- Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Supports implementation of the standards described in the FIFA Medical Handbook as per the operational plan, with a focus on participating teams and referees:
- Plans and organises the 24/7 emergency medical cover for players and team officials at all venues (Team Base Camps; and Team Hotels) in collaboration with Host City Medical Leads
- Plans and organises the ambulance coverage of all official training sessions. Inclusive of identifying and contracting with multiple services as needed.
- Monitors that specialized sports radiology, concussion and cardiology services are available for PMA teams at all Host Cities and team base camp locations.
- Record and track incidents from all venues and TBCs to ensure a complete database throughout both tournaments.
- Communicates with designated hospitals and providers selected by the FIFA VMOs and secures the implementation of elite athlete pathways by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding or other agreements as indicated
- Supports Senior Medical Manager to organize the full range of stadium medical services to teams to ensure that the appointed medical and healthcare staff, medical equipment, logistics, communication and patient evacuation routes are adequate, appropriate and have been practiced
- Oversees and leads the procurement process for all stadium and other event-related site medical services to participating teams and referees
- Develops and manages contracts with medical service providers
- Monitors the assignment of player medical centres to the location identified by FIFA26 Medical during stadium visits and ensure implementation of any overlay requirements in the US stadiums for FIFA World Cup 26™ and FIFA Club World Cup 25™.
- Supports the planning, preparation and delivery of the Team Doctor Workshop within the Team Workshop organized by Team Services prior to the main tournament, incl. budgeting and financial oversight
- Supports the FIFA injury spotting program based on the concept by the FIFA Research and Medical Leads
- Supports the uploading and regular update of all required information for participating teams to the Team Services' teams' hub, incl. insurance and temporary licensing requirements, importation of medication and equipment, cardiac screening requirements and all related forms, team doctor scope of work, maps of Host Cities and Team Base Camps with designated hospitals, FIFA VMO contact details, emergency service providers and numbers, full description of how to access services via the VMO and the Main Command Centre and all FIFA Medical services and protocols (online education resources and mandatory courses, information on and link to replacement for medical reasons, FIFA Concussion Protocol, FIFA Match Doctors, Pre-Match Emergency Action Plan, injury spotting, cooling breaks) etc.
- Development of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with designated hospitals and healthcare resources
- Researching, organizing and disseminating healthcare resource information for VMOs and team doctors
- Keeps track of temporary licensing requirements for team doctors and engages FIFA26 Legal where FIFA Venue Medical Officers cannot resolve the matter with their Professional Board
- Monitors the timely submission of information and declarations by team doctors
- Supports the Director, Medical Administration and the Senior Manager, Medical Services in the financial planning and budgeting of the tournament medical services based on the scope and requirements
- Anticipates and analyses problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure optimal support to team doctors at all times
- Cooperates with other stakeholders and functional areas within FIFA26 to meet the FIFA medical requirements
- Represents first point of contact for Team Services in all matters related to teams
- Builds trust relations with external key partners and stakeholders
- Bachelor's Degree in sports business management or similar qualification
- At least 5 years of professional experience in national or international football
- Organising medical services at national and international sports events, in a senior function within the event owner organisation.
- Planning and organising medical services that meet event owner requirements and operational role in the implementation at major international sports events.
- Extensive professional network within the national sports and football medicine community to draw from during project implementation.
- Longstanding experience in multicultural and multi-professional environments and establishing sound working relationships with people of other cultures and backgrounds
- Fluent in English. Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
