About the Role:
The Quality Control Associate plays a critical role in maintaining the accuracy of inventory and ensuring the quality of products in the retail lumber yard. This position is responsible for conducting cycle counts, inspecting materials for customer deliveries and inter-yard transfers, performing spot checks, reviewing returned items (credits), stocking each store showroom, and assisting with various yard operations as needed. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working in a dynamic outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Regular Cycle Counts: Perform scheduled inventory counts to verify that physical stock matches records, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Inspect Materials for Deliveries and Transfers: Verify the accuracy and quality of materials prepared for customer deliveries and inter-yard transfers, ensuring the correct items and quantities are shipped.
- Perform Spot Checks: Conduct periodic inspections of inventory and products to ensure compliance with quality standards, checking for damage, proper labeling, or other criteria.
- Review Returned Items (Credits): Assess the condition of returned products to determine if they can be restocked or require alternative processing, supporting accurate credit handling.
- Stocking Store Showrooms: Ensure each store showroom is adequately stocked with products, maintaining inventory levels and presentation standards to enhance customer experience and sales opportunities.
- Assist with Yard Operations: Support additional tasks as needed, including unloading delivery trucks, putting away stock, pulling orders for customers, and other operational duties.
- Maintain Safety Standards: Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing tasks in the lumber yard.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in inventory management, quality control, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Good organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects (e.g., lumber) and perform manual labor.
- Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying quantities.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and report findings.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with inventory management software or tools is a plus.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an outdoor lumber yard setting.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and precipitation.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
- Involves handling heavy or bulky materials, such as lumber and related products.
