What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Planner position at Fire Manufacturing Innovations?
Works with customers, the Customer Account Specialist, engineering, and installers; creates functional & attractive layout designs for Fire & Emergency Vehicle compartments to safely mount various types of industry specific equipment while generating designs to maximize storage capacity. Work begins with a customer pre-construction meeting to identify vehicle layout, equipment to be mounted, and specific customer wants and requirements. Preliminary layout/design sketches will be used by the Customer Account Specialist to generate a cost estimate and build time and will be communicated with the customer for review and approval. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with external customers and multiple internal disciplines which include, but are not limited to the Customer Account Specialist, engineering, fabrication, assembly, and sales.

- Participate in:
- customer pre-construction meetings
- initial design and layout walkaround with customer
- final customer walkaround at delivery
- Knowledge of industry trends and Fire & Emergency vehicle body styles
- Working knowledge of one note, Adobe, Microsoft applications, and/or other design software to create customer facing three-dimensional digital mockups
- Work directly with the customer making recommendations, based upon industry experience for; specific mounting solutions, i.e. tool boards, FMI SuZans, tip down trays, oil dry hoppers, shelving and storage
- Ability to analyze specifications, drawings, and other information to prepare accurate and time sensitive compartment management solution drawings
- Ability to solve complex organizational/tool placement issues when designing compartment layouts
- Communicate design/build issues with the Customer Account Specialist so that necessary changes can be discussed with the customer
- Work with installation supervisor to ensure design is being followed by installers
- Communicate changes in design/layout with installation supervisor
- Communicate regularly with the Customer Account Specialist to ensure timelines are being met
- Attend industry events in support of role
- Fast paced environment including significant multi-tasking and adherence to tight schedules/timelines
- Minimum of a relevant associate degree and/or 3-5 years of Fire & Emergency service compartment layout/design; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Fire and Emergency service background and/or manufacturing experience is a plus
- Ability to establish and maintain professional and courteous relationships with customer and co-workers
