Position Summary

Oversee the operations of the Albuquerque Fire Department Fleet Maintenance Program; coordinate with Risk Management regarding accidents and total vehicle losses; review documentation and prepare analysis of Fire Department vehicles; produce a variety of research and reports regarding fleet maintenance operations; participate in review of bids and proposals for purchasing vehicles and maintenance services; and monitor fleet maintenance operations program performance.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration; and

Five (5) years of fleet maintenance experience in a first-responder environment; and

To include two (2) years supervisory experience.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class (B) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Operations, services and activities of a fleet maintenance program in a first-responder environment
  • Principles and practices of vehicle maintenance program development and implementation
  • Basic principles and practices of automotive mechanics
  • OSHA and NFPA laws, regulations, standards and policies
  • Modern office equipment including computers
  • Principles of business letter writing and report preparation
  • Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration
  • Principles and practices of purchasing
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Coordinate warranty and maintenance service for fleet vehicles
  • Conduct research and analysis; prepare reports
  • Develop and prepare requirements and specifications for various fleet maintenance services and equipment as required
  • Develop and present training materials
  • Supervise, organize, and review the work of lower level staff
  • Read and understand blue prints, schematics and technical drawings
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Maintain certification and training as necessary or as required
  • Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Maintain mental capacity that allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, writing and operating assigned equipment
