The Director of Government Relations develops and maintains relationships with government officials, ensuring compliance with legislation and regulations that impact the organization. This individual will play a key role in shaping policy strategies related to Firehawk’s defense contracts with the CEO and will act as a liaison between the company and government stakeholders. This position is based in Washington, DC, with travel required as needed to coordinate visits to Capitol Hill, the Pentagon, and other government offices.
Responsibilities
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Work Environment And Physical Requirements
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, standing for extended amounts of time, climbing, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment when visiting facilities such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.
Security Clearance
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic plans to influence policy and legislation relevant to Firehawk’s defense contracts.
- Establish and cultivate relationships with key government officials, policymakers, and regulatory bodies.
- Analyze and interpret legislation, policies, and regulator frameworks providing actionable insights.
- Collaborate with the President on business development and engineering to identify government partnership opportunities.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders and executives on policy and industry related developments that impact the organization.
- Reporting on any legislative or regulatory developments to relevant stakeholders
- Represent Firehawk Aerospace in government meetings, hearings and advocacy efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a Master's or JD.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience either serving in the US Military, Department of Defense, or on Capitol Hill, specifically in roles related to defense policy or government programs.
- Strong background in government relations and policy advocacy.
- Prior lobbying experience with a defense contractor is preferred
- Strong relationship building, negotiation and influence
- Self-motivated, goal oriented, and strategic thinker with a proactive approach.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills for use at all levels – from executives to government officials.
