Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Human Resources to join our innovative team at Firehawk Aerospace, a defense technology startup revolutionizing propulsion technology for aerospace and defense applications. The Director of HR will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our human resources strategy, fostering a high-performance culture, and supporting our rapid growth. This is a key position where you will have a direct impact on the growth and development of our employees while driving our operational goals and objectives forward.

As Director of HR, you will work closely with our internal leadership team, developing and implementing best practices, HR strategies, effective policies, and new program initiatives that align with Firehawk’s overall vision. You will ensure efficient operations across various departments, enhancing our ability to innovate and deliver cutting-edge propulsion solutions critical to national security.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior leadership to align HR policy with overall company goals and objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute HR policies and calendar for the organization.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with laws and regulations and recommends best practices and modifies policies to maintain compliance.
  • Oversee other HR processes, such as recruiting and onboarding to ensure efficiency and best practices.
  • Manage and lead the HR functions, including onboarding, compensation, payroll, timekeeping, workforce strategy, and benefits.
  • Oversee payroll and benefits administration through our PEO partner with Paychex.
  • Utilize salary survey data and provide compensation analysis and leveling guides.
  • Ability to facilitate performance review training and discussions as well as disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Handle the offboarding of employees in accordance with the company policies and collect survey data.
  • Provides reporting to senior leadership in terms of trends and in support of talent acquisition and talent management.
  • Plan and execute annual compensation analysis, annual benefits enrollment, and bi-annual performance management processes.
  • Responsible for communication with employees regarding HR policy questions and able to tactfully handle employee relations issues that arise.
  • Ability to adapt to emerging technologies and best practices in Human Resources.
  • Develop and maintain a budget
  • Ability to mentor talent acquisition and HR support staff.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or another related field required
  • Minimum 10 years' progressive experience in a Human Resources leadership role, including HR policy creation and execution.
  • Proficiency with Timekeeping systems, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, OneNote)
  • Previous experience building HR infrastructure at a startup or high growth rate company.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Focus on safety, reliability, innovation, efficiency, and teamwork
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships
  • U.S. Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Paychex Flex HRIS system.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g. SHRM-SCP, SPHR or other).
  • Previous experience working with Department of Defense or with a company serving as a Defense Contractor.
  • Master’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or another related field desired

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, standing for extended amounts of time, climbing, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Security Clearance

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
