What You Will Do:

  • Reviews patient's requisition/physicians' orders to obtain vital information needed prior to test, i.e. past heart disorders, special medications and special testing regimen to be followed.
  • Identifies patient. Explains purpose and procedure of the test to the patient. Instructs and aids patient to remove clothing to expose the chest, arms and legs, as necessary.
  • Attaches electrodes to pre-determined positions on the arms, legs, chest and head as necessary.
  • Operates electrodiagnostic machines according to manufacturer’s recommendations and policy.
  • Upon completion of the exam, ensures tracings and results are clear without interference. Removes the electrodes from the patient.
  • After the physician has interpreted the test results, follows established protocols regarding the management of reports.
  • Maintains electrodiagnostic machines and equipment by cleaning and replacing electrodes, supplies and tracing paper.
  • Applies and disconnects holter monitor for patient. Provides patient instruction on use of holter monitor and documentation in diary.
  • Attaches and disconnects cardiac event monitors for patients. Provides patient instruction on the use of the cardiac monitor and transmission of cardiac event tracings.
  • Applies blood pressure monitors for patients. Provides patient instruction on the use of the monitor.
  • Administers electroencephalograms (EEG’s) when requested by a physician. As part of the testing process, gather patient’s medical history, explain testing procedures, and prepare the patient for the procedure. During testing monitor the patient’s status and notes any abnormalities. After testing is complete report the patients’ findings to the physician for further analysis.
  • Maintains departmental filing system.
  • Assists the other modalities within the Cardiac Diagnostics Department when needed.
  • Regularly demonstrates the ability to serve patients of all ages in the routine performance of duties.
  • Responds to all inpatient Code Blue and MET alerts.

What you will need:

  • High School diploma, or equivalent. Completion of a diversified medical occupations program is preferred. BLS certified.
  • Ability to operate electrodiagnostic machines and related software.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds and be mobile.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and prioritize tasks.
  • Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.
  • Ability to read and write small letters and numbers and effectively communicate and understand in both written and oral forms.
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency codes.
  • Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.
  • Successful completion of a ninety (90) day probationary period.
