In 2019, an impact investment fund managed by Agriculture Capital acquired FPF to build out a low cost, vertically integrated supply chain of high quality, organic blueberries operating at scale to address growing global demand for this nutritious fruit.
Position Summary
The Shift Lead is responsible for training and directing the operations team to achieve the daily performance targets of the operation safely and successfully. In addition, the lead must oversee the operation of all production equipment, all quality controls & checks, inventory tasks associated with Jobs, and making sure all preventative maintenance is completed accordingly. The Shift Lead is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the equipment and the operations team.
Essential Job Functions
Operations:
- Ensure the timely and complete production equipment set up and staging of materials needed before starting production run. Expectation is 1 hour before startup. Equipment includes but not limited to
- Bag Machines
- Optical Sorters
- X-ray and Metal Detectors
- Tape Machines and Inkjets
- All other required equipment
- Works directly with Operators ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment while achieving daily performance targets.
- Works directly with the Production Manager/Operations Supervisor to ensure the timely and complete execution of production schedules and tasks.
- Maintains employee communication and control of operations activities, ensuring the timely reporting of any and all variances to the Operations Supervisor, i.e. reporting over or under tempered materials.
- Works directly with Material Handlers ensuring all materials released into production are pulled in FIFO.
- Ensures all nonconforming materials are reworked and documented accurately, working directly with Material Handlers and Operations Supervisor
Reporting:
- Provide and review the daily “Blending line and Packing Line” Operation report with Operators and Operations Supervisor.
- Collect, compile and report daily, all data for materials issued into and packed out of Jobs for both first and second shifts.
Pass down:
- Attends and participate in all scheduled pass down meetings.
- Communicates and hands off to next shift, what is currently being run, what has already been completed, and any issues or opportunities on the shift impacting the successful completion of the production plan.
Quality:
- Ensure all quality checks are completed and documented on Redzone by Operators and/or Operations support 3.
- Fill in to perform quality checks as needed.
- Elevate issues as needed to the management department.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and fill out documentation.
- Perform ATP cleaning verification testing.
- Effectively communicate all food safety & quality concerns within department.
- Train new hires on daily tasks and expectations.
- Training recordkeeping.
- Perform finished product grading, metal detector checks, weight checks, BOM verification, & label verification.
Other duties:
- Complies with company policies, procedures, safety guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Recommend changes to improve production efficiencies, safeties, and costs.
- Identify and report unsafe operations to Production Manger immediately.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized production environment.
- Train, mentor and monitor all Machine Operators
Qualification & Skills
- Must be able to read and write English.
- 2-year machine operational and /or related experience in manufacturing environment
- Advanced understanding of computers and operating software.
- Lead experience.
- Forklift certified.
- Good communicator.
- Problem solving/analysis.
- Demonstrate high attention to detail.
- Ability to make adjustments quickly.
- Working knowledge production costing.
Other:
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, or irregular hours especially during fresh processing season.
- Passion for great tasting and nutritious fruit products, including smoothies, would be a big plus.
