Title: Outreach Worker
Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week, non-exempt, grant-funded position, part-time also available)
Reports to: Outreach Manager
Purpose: To ensure refugee and immigrant community members throughout the Central Valley receive accurate and timely information about their rights and available resources
Work Location: FIRM’s administrative office and throughout the Central San Joaquin Valley region
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Share timely and accurate information to immigrant/refugee communities
- Attend community events to provide outreach and education
- Canvass and disseminate information throughout the Central Valley region (including Fresno, Madera, Merced, Stanislaus counties)
- Follow-up with community members to link them to appropriate assistance.
- Learn about different resources, rights, and protections available to Californians
- Ask questions when information is unclear
- Successfully complete trainings on FIRM data, events, policies, and community building.
- Track and input accurate data about outreach activities on a timely basis
- Work with FIRM staff and community partners to achieve outcomes of grant program
- Attend and meaningfully engage in all meetings pertaining to program
- Provide support for coordinated events as needed or directed by supervisor
- Proactively communicate with supervisor and/or team when issues, questions or concerns arise
- Actively participate and contribute to team meetings for ongoing improvement of day to day operations
- Contribute towards strong cross-cultural collaboration
- Attend ongoing training and educational opportunities
- Actively participate in and learn from FIRM staff meetings (Mondays 3:45pm - 5pm) and staff development days
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience working in community outreach and/or education programs
- Fluent in a language spoken by refugee/immigrant community members (Hmong, Lao, Khmer, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Arabic, Dari and/or Pashto) and confidence in speaking conversational English
- Connection to immigrant and refugee low-wage workers
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Resourceful, excellent problem solver
- Ability to multi-task and to work under pressure
- Ability to provide in-person outreach independently and on teams
- Ability to flex schedule in order to work weekends and evenings for specific community events.
- Ability to log activity and complete reports in a timely manner
- Willingness to travel up to two hours away to conduct outreach activities
- Willingness to learn new skills and share information with the community
- Flexibility, adaptability to changing situations
- Stress Management and self-regulation skills.
- Reliable transportation required to start work, must obtain valid driver’s license, with access to personal vehicle with full insurance coverage within 60 days of starting employment
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, webforms and regular use of e-mail
Preferred:
- Experience working in a non-profit work environment or a social service setting assisting people in need
- Experience working as an Outreach Worker or Promotora
- Experience working in an outcomes driven grant program
- Ability to drive up to 2 hours away
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk at least 10 minutes at a time, with standing breaks, for up to 4 hours.
- Regularly carry less than 10 pounds of outreach materials
- Occasionally move items less than 50 pounds over short distances
- Regularly works in outdoor weather conditions and in public and community spaces.

Compensation:
- 17-19$, depending on experience.
- 13 paid holidays, accrued paid vacation based on years of service, 8 sick days per year
- Cell phone reimbursement stipend of $40.00/month
- Mileage reimbursed at the federal reimbursement rate, currently $0.70 per mile
