Position Summary
The SBA Loan Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing and monitoring a portfolio of Small Business Administration (SBA) loans. This role involves underwriting, analyzing, servicing, and ensuring compliance with SBA guidelines while providing exceptional support to borrowers and internal stakeholders. The Portfolio Manager will work closely with the SBA lending team, credit administration, and other departments to maintain portfolio health, mitigate risks, and contribute to the overall growth and profitability of the SBA lending program.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management:
- Oversee and manage a portfolio of SBA loans, ensuring timely payments, compliance with SBA regulations, and adherence to bank policies.
- Conduct regular reviews and risk assessments of loan accounts to identify potential concerns or opportunities.
- Develop and execute action plans to address past-due accounts, restructurings, or potential losses.
Loan Servicing and Compliance:
- Ensure all loan documentation complies with SBA and bank requirements.
- Monitor and track loan and financial covenants, financial reporting, and collateral valuations.
- Facilitate servicing actions such as modifications, deferments, and renewals in accordance with SBA guidelines.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Alongside the SBA RM, serve as a key point of contact for borrowers in the SBA portfolio, providing timely communication and support.
- Address borrower inquiries, resolve issues, and provide guidance on SBA loan terms and conditions.
- Foster strong relationships with clients to encourage repeat business and referrals.
Risk Mitigation and Reporting:
- Prepare and present portfolio performance reports to senior management, highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Work with internal audit, compliance, and credit teams to address findings and ensure best practices are maintained.
- Identify trends in portfolio performance and recommend strategies to mitigate risk.
Collaboration and Support:
- Partner with SBA underwriters, SBA RMs, and credit analysts to ensure smooth onboarding of new loans.
- Stay updated on SBA regulations and industry trends to provide guidance and training to internal teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration and / or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in SBA loan portfolio management, underwriting, or related areas.
- Comprehensive knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulations.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess financial statements and loan risk.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in loan management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in commercial lending or credit analysis.
- Familiarity with banking regulations and risk management practices.
