Hours: Full-time, 35 Hours, Exempt

Reports to: Reports temporarily to Associate Pastor and interim advisory committee until appointment of an interim pastor

Partners with: Heavenly Threads Staff and Volunteers, SOS Ministry Volunteers, Shields Ministry Administrator

Background:

The Heavenly Threads Thrift Shop is an outreach mission of the church, which accepts donations of gently used clothing and housewares and resells them at reasonable prices.

Responsibilities:

The Manager is responsible for performingthe Administrative Responsibilities listed below. Additionally, the Manager coordinates the ever-changing workload and availability of volunteers.

1. Administrative

  • Oversee the daily operations of the thrift shop which include but are not limited to:

i. Opening/closing the shop.

ii. Accepting, processing, and organizing donations.

iii. Training, managing, and providing support to volunteers.

iv. Welcoming and assisting customers.

v. Managing daily financial transactions and bank deposits to ensure fiscally responsible practices.

vi. Organizing and maintaining the inventory.

  • Communicate effectively with the other staff and volunteers, keeping all up to date on issues and activities.
  • Create and manage work schedules/calendars to ensure adequate coverage throughout the year.
  • Manage supplies for the efficient and effective operation of the store.
  • Regularly update the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the program can be carried out consistently over time.
  • Annual review of HT Manager:

i. The Manager will engage in an annual update of this job description with the supervisor.

ii. A yearly evaluation of the HT Manager will be undertaken with the supervisor.

  • Set clear and attainable annual goals and develop the plan for providing the support to achieve the goals.

2. Working with Volunteers

a. Train and coach volunteers in the strategies of:

i. maintaining a safe, clean, attractive shop that has an effective layout and eye-catching displays of merchandise.

ii. relating with warmth and respect to fellow volunteers, customers, and ministry beneficiaries.

b. Schedule volunteers as needed to cover tasks in the Thrift Shop.

3. Connecting with Church and Community

a. Work effectively and diplomatically with the donors whose contributions make Heavenly

Threads possible.

b. Develop relationships with church and community members with expertise in a variety of

areas such as antiques, jewelry, art, etc., who can assist in evaluating and pricing non-

clothing items.

c. Provide communications and content regarding the shop’s activity for inclusion in

marketing, outreach and reporting to the church and community.

Qualifications/Experience:

1. College degree preferred.

2.Previous experience working with volunteers.

3. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills desirable.

4. Previous retail experience essential.

5. A significant level of physical strength and stamina is required.
