MUSIC DIRECTOR
Westbrook Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, is searching for a faithful and joyful part-time Music Director to enrich our worship and ministry. The ideal candidate will be skilled in playing both the organ and piano, as well as leading our dedicated choir. Our music director collaborates with our Minister and leaders to create engaging worship experiences for our congregation. At WCC, we honor our rich faith traditions while continually exploring new ways to experience God’s love.
The position responsibilities:
- Collaborate with minister and leaders to create weekly worship services
- Provide piano and organ music for all worship services (Sunday mornings, seasonal and special services).
- Facilitate the congregation in singing and worshipping through music, including hymns, special music, preludes, postludes, responses, etc.
- Has the right of first refusal to play for memorial services/funerals/weddings.
- Arrange for qualified substitute pianist or organist when absent for church services.
- Select choral music and lead the choir for rehearsals and Sunday worship.
- Maintain music supplies and oversee maintenance of instruments and equipment.
Westbrook Congregational Church has one service on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. The choir has approximately 10-12 members – a warm, enthusiastic group that rehearses one evening and Sunday mornings before worship.
The piano is a completely rebuilt 1883 Steinway Grand Piano style “A”.
The organ is a 1982 Schantz pipe organ, 2 manuals, 27 ranks.
Qualifications include proficiency in playing piano and organ; experience providing music/worship within a church environment; experience leading an adult choir; a love of music, worship, and God. This is a part-time, year-round position. Choir responsibilities are during the academic year.
