Job Title: Part time Church Bookkeeper
Wages: $20.00 per hour
Work Schedule: 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (16 hours per week)
Benefits: Paid Vacation after one year of work
First Lutheran Church is offering a part time church bookkeeper position. This position is responsible for all aspects of the church's financial records, including contribution records, payables, receivables, payroll, and generating financial statements, essentially handling the complete accounting function.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education and Experience
a. High School diploma
b. GED equivalent
c. Minimum two years bookkeeping experience
2. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
a. Must have the ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal form.
b. Must be able to work with a variety of people.
c. Must have the ability to maintain professionalism
d. Must be knowledgeable and proficient in computer skills and using current word processing programs and accounting software (i.e. Quick books) with familiarity with a presentation and publishing programs.

Overall Functions
The First Lutheran Bookkeeper is responsible for and ensures appropriate and accurate financial information for the Treasurer. Offerings and individual contributions are to be held in confidence and relayed to the Stewardship Board upon request. The applicant must be personable and represent the church in a professional and courteous manner when interacting with members, callers, visitors and vendors.
Administration: The bookkeeper reports directly to the Senior Pastor.
Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Accounts payable: Bills must be paid within the due date on the invoice.
a. With the exception of utility bills, the bookkeeper will seek approval of appropriate Board Chair.
b. Approved bills must be paid leaving time for the Treasurer to sign the checks and then received by the recipient prior to due date.
c. Bills and/or vouchers relating to debit card purchases should be attached to debit card statements for payment by the Treasurer
d. Credit Card payments are made prior to the due date
2. Accounts receivable: Receivables must be posted as paid when received.
3. Payroll must be completed one day prior to the actual payday allowing the Treasurer time to sign the checks
a. Includes payment of state and federal taxes by the required due date with appropriate documentation.
b. Quarterly reports must be completed by the 20th of the month.
c. W-2s must be distributed to the employees or mailed by January 25th.
d. Responsible for recording vacation time for employees earning vacation pay.
4. Bank Account Reconciliations must be completed prior to finalizing the month end accounting.
a. The bookkeeper must follow up on uncashed checks after the 2nd month they appear as uncashed.
b. All deposits that don’t clear must be identified and explained.
5. Record all giving each week and post member contributions in the Shepherd’s Staff by the first day of the week or soon as possible. These are given to the Secretary by Tuesday for publishing in the next Sunday’s bulletin.
a. Contribution statements must be completed as soon as possible after the end of the calendar year under the direction of the Stewardship Board
b. Assign envelope number to new members
c. All individual contributions are confidential. The Stewardship Board must make request of individual contributions documents.
6. The bookkeeper may be assigned additional responsibilities.
7. After hiring, the bookkeeper will serve a one year probationary period with interim evaluations during that year. Performance evaluations will occur on a yearly basis.

1. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time and on occasion climb and reach. With inherent keyboarding and writing responsibilities, the employee is required to repetitively handle papers, files and utilize office equipment which requires hand and finger dexterity as well.
2. Special visual needs for this position entail both near vision as well as focusing capability. The ability to hear and to remain attentive during long periods of repetitive work is also one of the mental demands of the job.
3. Talking, memory, mathematics, communication skill and reasoning are also inclusive in the mental demands of the position.
4. Must be able to lift a case of copier paper. (30 lbs)
