At First Mid, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e., bonus, incentives, and/or commission). The Retirement Plan Participant Advisor will play a critical role in driving participant engagement in our employer retirement plan service offerings. This position will be responsible for managing a portfolio and facilitating communication with retirement plan participants through group presentations, individual consultations, and tailored content. Additionally, this role will assist the department in pursuing business development opportunities through back-office sales support.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of current and prospective retirement plans by serving as the main point of contact for participants for an assigned group of retirement plans.
  • Partner with plan sponsors to identify plan enrollment and employee education needs and develop appropriate strategies.
  • Engage in dialogue guiding participants in making informed investment decisions and educate them on the advantages of participation in the company sponsored retirement plan; may involve problem solving and follow up.
  • Cultivate relationships with participants by delivering personalized service and responding to plan-related questions.
  • Develop and disseminate general and tailored educational materials for plan participants.
  • Prepare and conduct engaging individual and group enrollment/education presentations.
  • Work with department team members to identify and suggest areas of improvement to policies and processes as well as service levels.
  • Stay updated on retirement plan industry trends, ERISA knowledge, investment products, TPA vendors, and recordkeeper partners.
  • Assist Business Development Officer in gathering recordkeeper and/or TPA vendor proposals during retirement plan conversions for new and existing retirement plan clients.
  • Draft recommendations for retirement plan fund offerings and changes, as needed.
  • Represent the organization and provide leadership in key community activities and committees. Become affiliated with professional associations; attend conventions, conferences, and seminars.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Complete required training associated with job function.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • Degree in business administration, marketing, accounting, or finance or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a professional office environment or the financial service industry.
  • Previous experience working with employee benefits, retirement accounts, or qualified plans preferred.
  • FINRA securities licensure, or the desire to become licensed within the first year of employment, a plus.
Skills:
  • Demonstrated understanding of key benefit concepts related to employer sponsored benefits.
  • General understanding of ERISA laws governing qualified retirement plans and the retirement plan industry.
  • Analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a strong client service focus
  • Familiarity with top vendors' product and service offerings, with the ability to analyze direct and indirect costs related to plan management.
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment.
  • High standard of professionalism
  • Must be autonomous, able to multitask, and meet or exceed project deadlines.
  • Must be focused on professional growth, self-improvement, and continuous learning.
