Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate counselor to join our educational team during our 5k-5th grade summer program. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and a strong commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. This role involves planning and leading activities. Along with this, our students will be attending field trips each week. The counselor will implement safety strategies while being engaged during off campus experiences. The counselor will play a crucial role in supporting child welfare while creating a positive environment supporting the social, emotional, and individual needs of each child.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a positive environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding academic behavioral issues and necessary information.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary projects and share best practices in teaching.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by adhering to child welfare policies and procedures on and off campus.
  • Provide safety practices for off campus experiences including but not limited to: swimming, outdoor parks, sport activities, etc.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children in an educational or daycare setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of planning and leading activities, supervising children, and ensuring their safety on and off campus.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and staff members.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to fostering a nurturing learning environment.
  • Relevant certifications or degrees in education or related fields are highly desirable.

Ideal candidate will:

  • Agree to understand, accept, respect, and serve pupils entrusted to me and provide spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional development to the best of my ability. I agree to observe appropriate confidentiality in regard to pupil, parent, and staff matters.
  • Agree to attend and be on time for all staff meetings when scheduled. I agree to be present for such meetings and conferences as may be called by Directors, including trainings.
  • Understand to meet SC DSS regulations that all staff are required to obtain 15 hours of training, yearly. Further, understand 15 hours are required to maintain employment and staff will not receive additional hourly pay to complete required hours.
  • Understand that employment with First Pres Child Enrichment Center is on an “at will” basis and may be terminated with or without cause or notice.
  • Agree that if there are deficiencies in my job or personal performances, the Directors, at their sole discretion, may determine that certain acts, deficiencies, or situations are so grave that they may result in immediate dismissal.
  • Understand that my employment is contingent on maintaining the following records: Medical record completed by the staff person verifying whether his/her health is satisfactory. Health assessment completed by a health care provider assessing the ability of the staff person to work with children. Health Assessment must be completed within one month of employment and should include health history, physical exam, vision and hearing screening, tuberculosis screening, and a review of immunization status. Further, I understand to maintain employment a new health assessment must be obtained every four years after initial assessment.
