Job Description
General Description: The floating teacher will assume the responsibility of a classroom teacher for thirty-minute increments in a rotation of classrooms throughout the day. He or she will also assist with arrival procedures, as well as lunch and rest time supervision. The hours of a floating teacher are Monday-Friday 7:30am-12:30pm. The floating teacher shall report to the Preschool Director.
Qualifications: The person selected for this position should be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, or have experience working with young children. This person should be knowledgeable about child development and early childhood education. He or she must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
Required by Licensing: Medical Exam, Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting, Maltreatment Check, 2 Letters of Recommendation, Resume, Proof of Negative TB Test, On-line Pre-service and Child Abuse/Neglect Training, copy of diploma or transcripts (if applicable).
Additional Requirements: Drug testing on request, COVID19 vaccination
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
⬥ Supervise and implement the program for the classes in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the Preschool Ministry and the standards of West Virginia licensing.
⬥ Foster student independence and providing comfort during arrival procedures.
⬥ Develop an appreciation for the individual child in relationship to his cultural and socioeconomic background.
⬥ Respond to each child with dignity and respect.
⬥ Foster each child’s awareness of his/her role as an integral member of a group
⬥ Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
⬥ Attend all staff meetings, training programs, courses, and other professional growth.
⬥ Work with the Preschool Director to keep one’s own personnel file up to date.
⬥ Be a team player with the staff as a whole, assisting teachers, the Director, and Assistant Director with tasks as needed.
⬥ Supervise lunch and a transition to rest time for Extended Day students.
⬥ Assist in public-relations events sponsored by the school.
