Teacher Job Description
Purpose: To provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected.
Key Responsibilities:
- To offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group.
- To interact with children and to encourage their involvement in activities.
- To prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean, and appealing and permits the child to grow and explore.
- Plan curriculum in detail for assigned classes, with team-teacher if applicable.
- Implement the daily program with the help of team-teachers or aide if applicable.
- Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children’s artwork and other hangings.
- Keep classroom, storage rooms and bathroom neat and orderly.
- Conduct individual conferences with parents of each child at least twice yearly.
- Be familiar with and follow all preschool policies.
- To observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior.
- Keep director informed in advance of program needs.
- Report to director any special needs or problems of individual children.
- Report to director any cases of suspected child illnesses, such as lice.
- Report to director any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Report to director on any staff matters.
- Attend regular staff planning and evaluation meetings.
- Write and send home regular monthly parent newsletters and calendars.
- Handle discipline promptly and in accordance with policy on positive discipline.
Requirements:
- A CDA degree in early childhood education or related field.
- Complete H.R.S./DCF 45-hour class.
- 10 hours CEU/in-service per year.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
- Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
- Evidence of sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively.
- Physical stamina. (Lifting 20 pounds.)
- Complete physical exam every two years.
- Complete T.B. test every two years.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
