What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engine Dynamometer Technician position at First Search?
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Conduct dynamometer testing of engines, following established procedures
Conduct ECU calibration for optimizing engine performance
Collaborate with Engineers to execute test plans and ensure the integrity of test data
Prepare and set up test cells according to specified configurations
Execute testing procedures as outlined in project specifications
Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and install testing equipment with proper documentation
Collect data during testing activities, maintain accurate records
Assemble instrumentation and ancillaries on test engines
Assemble and modify test setups, working closely with the supervising Test Engineer
Debug mechanical, electrical, and software problems
Assist with test data collection, storage, and publishing of test reports
Overlap with Engine Build Technicians duties may include :
Fabricate and / or assemble test rigs and tooling for engine components
Assemble test engines, including instrumentation and inspections (photos, measurements)
Maintain databases of component inventory, engine build logs, and hardware run times
Finish and inspect engine components using hand and / or machine tools
Tear down post-test engines including post-test inspections report writing
Additionally :
Communicate professionally with teammates both on and off site to resolve technical problems
Maintain a spirited, open-minded personality and "can-do" attitude during the course of unavoidable failures inherent to the R&D process
Continuously improve facilities by keeping it clean, organized, and prepared for tests and customer demonstrations
Assist as needed with computer / IT tasks, procurement / purchasing tasks, and shop / building maintenance. Being a small company, these additional duties may change with time depending on your abilities and company's needs
This broad range of work responsibilities requires invention, imagination, originality and relies on your experience in related fields of mechanical / engine testing
Qualifications :
Associates degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
3 years of experience as a Dynamometer Technician in a R&D or engine testing environment
Strong understanding of engine performance metrics and testing methodologies
Familiarity with data acquisition systems and analysis software, such as National Instruments LabView
Familiarity with engine calibration to optimize engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions using programmable ECUs, such as MoTeC
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based environment
Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality results on time
