The Field Technician is responsible for performing onsite duties and ensuring that construction and safety standards are maintained at all road projects performed by First Star Safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs tasks in the interest of public safety and the motoring public through the use of traffic control products, equipment, vehicles, etc.
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Assembly and disassembly of signs and equipment
- Installing, maintaining, removing signs and other traffic related equipment
- Towing equipment
- Set up and manage traffic control in work zones.
- Performs traffic control and/or flagging services as needed
- Conduct tests and inspections on construction materials in accordance to company standards
- Routinely conducts equipment maintenance and daily equipment inspections according to company standards, including daily vehicle safety checks
- Ensure all equipment is in working order and report malfunctions.
- Operates company vehicles while also operating miscellaneous tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Routinely conducts facility and vehicles maintenance.
- Maintaining company issues tool bag with all tools in correct and operational order
- Assist the Foreman in various tasks and duties.
- Document daily activities and report findings.
- Immediately notifies foreman and department supervisors of any emergency, worksite accidents or other serious incidents
- Occasionally assist with delivery of material to worksites
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including Wearing proper and necessary PPE at all times
- Assist with special projects or tasks as needed to support the overall organization's objectives
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of projects
- Accuracy in setting up and maintaining traffic controls.
- Timely and precise documentation of activities and findings.
- Required Resource Availability: Percentage of times all required resources (materials, equipment) are available at the start of a task or project.
- Feedback from the Foreman regarding support and efficiency.
- Safety Incident Reporting accuracy
- Number of safety protocols breaches.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Familiarity with ODOT standards is preferred
- Heavy highway experience is preferred
- Worksite Traffic Supervisor (WTS) Certification Preferred
- Knowledge in traffic control and/or highway construction a plus
- Have knowledge of hand tools and other tools
- Team player with good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work extended hours when necessary.
- Motivated, self-driven, and able to work with minimal oversight.
- Clean, organized work habits.
- Physical aptitude to handle weights and prolonged standing.
- Commitment to safety and quality
- Must pass and maintain a clean drug screen
- Must become an active Union member of the Laborers International Union of North America
- Must possess a valid State of Ohios drivers license and a driving record suitable for insurability.
- Worksite Traffic Supervisor (WTS) Certification Preferred

- Physical requirements: sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, holding, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 110 lbs., seeing and reading
