Job Summary
The Mental Health Coordinator plays a vital role in promoting and managing the wellness programs for parents, students, and employees at First Step. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing mental health services that increase social competence and Kindergarten readiness for our children, enhance parents as primary educators of their children, and support the retention and appreciation of employees.
Duties
- Coordinate a multidisciplinary team that supports children with social-emotional or mental health challenges. This includes formulating and monitoring Positive Behavior Support plans, observations with feedback to teaching staff, lesson plan monitoring and support, and modeling intervention strategies.
- Supervise the Inclusion Aide position, including biweekly reflective supervision, creating a weekly schedule, and supporting the classroom with interventions and individualizations.
- Work cooperatively with administrative staff to integrate wellness initiatives into all health, parent involvement, education, and employment procedures.
- Provide counseling to staff and parents, ensuring sensitivity and understanding in addressing individual concerns.
- Collaborate with community healthcare professionals to ensure staff, parents, and children have access to mental health services in their local community when necessary.
- Conduct assessments to identify mental health needs and develop tailored interventions.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions aimed at educating parents and staff in wellness and social-emotional development. Lead the Conscious Discipline Action Team and monitor the implementation of the Conscious Discipline curriculum in the program.
- In collaboration with program leadership, plan and coordinate staff wellness initiatives and programs throughout the year.
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress and program outcomes while ensuring confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology required. Clinical licensure is strongly preferred. Must be license eligible at time of hire.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in an early childhood or elementary school setting.
- Experience with Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies, or similar early childhood curriculum/assessment system, strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Commitment to uphold the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
This position is funded through the Head Start program grant.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
