Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Counselor to join our team. This role is essential in providing support and guidance to individuals facing challenges related to addiction, mental health, and behavioral health issues. The Peer Counselor will utilize their personal experiences and professional training to foster a supportive environment that encourages recovery and personal growth.
Duties
- Provide one-on-one mentoring and support to clients navigating addiction recovery and mental health challenges.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage clients and facilitate open discussions about their experiences and goals.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies and life skills necessary for maintaining sobriety and improving mental well-being.
- Conduct crisis intervention sessions as needed, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients during critical moments.
- Collaborate with social workers, mental health professionals, and other team members to create comprehensive care plans tailored to individual client needs.
- Facilitate group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health awareness, and peer support.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with organizational policies.
Requirements
- Experience or training in addiction counseling, mental health counseling, or social work is preferred.
- Strong understanding of behavioral health systems and crisis management techniques.
- Proven ability to mentor individuals in a supportive manner while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing principles and crisis intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to connect with diverse populations.
- A genuine passion for helping others achieve their recovery goals and improve their quality of life.
- Certification or relevant training in peer support or related fields is a plus.
