The Children, Youth, and Family Faith Formation Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering a supportive and engaging environment for young people and their families. This position involves organizing, communicating, and implementing programs that promote spiritual growth, belonging, and community involvement. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with people and possess progressive values, openness, as well as organizational ministry skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree preferred in education, youth development, ministry, or equivalent program experience
- Experience with organizational programming or ministry education for children and youth
- Experience recruiting, organizing and training volunteers
- Values grounded in a progressive Christian tradition
Competencies
- Ability to plan and implement curriculum, social connection, and worship participation for elementary-aged children
- Commitment to educating children in a progressive Christian environment
- Detail oriented and organized; create schedules for family ministries with Children’s Ministry Team and staff, assist in planning and supporting weekly programming September through May
- Strong age-appropriate communication skills to collaborate effectively with Children’s Ministry Team, pastors, children, youth, and families via email, phone, and social media.
- Spirit of cooperation and coordination to recruit, train, and communicate with volunteers; to work with a variety of people in the congregation
- Other duties as assigned by Senior Minister or Associate Minister
Part Time Equivalent: .5FTE
Please note this position is currently a contract position for 2 years, contracted for the months of August through May. June and July are off.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Children’s Faith Formation (50%)
- Build relationships with existing and new families
- Develop and implement children’s faith formation programming
- Recruit lay leaders and work with Office Manager to coordinate lay leader schedule
- Initiate, plan, and lead events for children to be involved in progressive curriculum, service learning, and intergenerational, collaborative social relationship building twice weekly (Sunday morning and Wednesday evening during the months of Sept-April)
- With ministers and families, assess and address children’s faith formation needs at First UCC and evaluate results
- Maintaining communication about Faith Formation schedule and opportunities with existing and new families in coordination with Office Manager
- Maintain accurate records of program participation and outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with the Associate Minister in children and family work.
Youth Faith Formation (50%)
- Build relationships with existing and new families and their youth.
- Maintaining communication about faith formation schedule and opportunities with existing and new families and their youth in coordination with the Office Manager and Member Volunteer(s)
- Facilitate the connection of supporting adults with youth that interact with First UCC programming
- Assist in offering other intergenerational, collaborative programming for youth at First UCC and attend community events that involve First UCC Youth
- With ministers, assess and address faith formation needs for youth at First UCC and evaluate results.
- Work collaboratively with the Associate Minister, Member Volunteer(s), and community partnerships in youth work
