Job Description:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Administers day-to-day operations of HR functions, including plant bumping/bidding procedures and pay progression programs; ensures accuracy of data relating to human resource activities; serves as information resource for employees; and provides various other HR support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processes new hires, terminations and any changes in plant employee status, performs system maintenance for new and existing employees;
- Administers plant bidding, shift/plant preference and bumping procedures to maintain authorized staffing levels. Analyzes and tracks authorized openings and the impact of movement within the plant workforce. Keeps supervisors advised of any manning changes in their area. Calculates and maintains plant and job seniority systems;
- Documents and analyzes employment data and activities for all employees, tracking additions/deletions/changes and ensures accuracy of various reports. Consolidates reports from external locations into corporate reports;
- Enhances employee/inter-departmental and community relations by communicating with applicants, employees, supervisors, and other internal and external contacts to resolve concerns and answer questions regarding HR and employment-related matters;
- Verifies accuracy of information on unemployment forms and protests claims, communicates with State unemployment officials, and audits quarterly unemployment statement to minimize state unemployment tax rates charged to the company;
- Interface with union leaders as it pertains to labor related issues. Promote and maintain positive relations with the union;
- Assists with staffing by screening applicants and conducting interviews for plant positions;
- Coordinates employee service award program to enhance employee morale; and
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS (Education/Experience/Certifications/Skills)
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent;
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred;
- Minimum of 5 years in a progressive human resource experience required;
- Minimum of 2 years in a unionized manufacturing facility required;
- Good written and oral communication and listening skills;
- Ability to explain basic policies and procedures at various levels;
- Ability to handle multiple, high-priority tasks in a fast-paced environment;
- Attention to detail; organized and deadline-oriented;
- Must maintain strict confidentiality;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to interact with a variety of individuals;
- Good analytical skills;
- Ability to understand regulations and policies and apply these in various situations;
- MS Office Suite;
- Must be able to maintain satisfactory record of attendance and conduct; and
- Must be able to work any shift and overtime, as required.
