Position Overview: Lab Compute Engineer
The Senior Lab Compute Engineer with Laboratory Device Expertise is responsible for providing technical support for Lab specialty devices (desktops, tablets controlling instruments), software, and laboratory instruments used in scientific and research environments. This role combines traditional IT support with specialized knowledge of laboratory equipment to ensure seamless operations and compliance within lab settings.
Laboratory Device Support:
- Support the setup, integration, and troubleshooting of laboratory devices such as HPLCs, GC systems, spectrophotometers, balances, and other scientific instruments.
- Resolve connectivity issues between laboratory instruments and associated software (e.g., LIMS, ELN, or data acquisition systems).
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for PCs, laptops, printers, and peripherals connected to equipment!
- Collaborate with instrument vendors and service providers for advanced troubleshooting and maintenance.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards such as GxP, GLP, or ISO for laboratory devices and IT systems.
- Maintain records of troubleshooting, maintenance, and software configurations for audit readiness.
- Assist in validating and qualifying systems and instruments as per regulatory requirements.
4. User Training and Support:
- Provide end-user support and training for laboratory staff on desktop systems and instrument software.
- Assist in creating user guides, SOPs, and training materials for lab-related IT systems.
5. System Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Monitor performance and reliability of laboratory devices and desktop systems to proactively identify potential issues.
- Manage inventory and coordinate the procurement of IT and laboratory-related hardware and software.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with scientists, laboratory managers, and IT teams to address unique laboratory requirements.
- Participate in IT infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with laboratory operational needs.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, Active Directory, and Office 365.
- Familiarity with laboratory devices such as chromatography systems, spectrometers, and balances.
- Experience with laboratory software, such as LIMS, ELN, Chromeleon, or Empower.
- Understanding of network configurations and troubleshooting, including TCP/IP and device connectivity.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards, such as GxP, GLP, and ISO.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with technical and non-technical staff.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
