Position Summary

 Progressively responsible work in the supervision of crews engaged in varying degrees of duties as established by Public Works, under the Road & Bridge division.

Essential Functions

• Implement safety procedures: inspection of safety gears, tools and heavy equipment, prepare and conduct safety meetings, identify onsite construction hazards and promote work station safety.
• Assist in planning and procurement process of materials for road maintenance and in-house construction projects.
• Coordinate efforts with the project managers and outside contractors to accomplish and meet project timelines.
• Supervise crews engaged in road and bridge maintenance and in-house construction. 
• Perform inspections of projects determining maintenance needs.
• Assign and evaluate crew performance on maintenance and construction projects.
• Monitor work assignments of crew(s) and make sure activities are proceeding according to plans and resolves any problems.
• Coordinate work activities with other Departments.
• Prepare work schedules involving heavy equipment operations.
• Meets with general public answering questions regarding information or complaints of road maintenance or construction, in which the crews are involved.
• Receives public requests for information regarding work activities.
• Reports actions and results of public questions to immediate supervisor.
• Performs related work as required. During emergencies, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
• 6-years experience in the maintenance and construction of roads and highways.
• 2-years experience at a foreman or crew leader level.
• Must possess a valid Florida Class 'B' commercial classified license as designated by the State of Florida.

• 50 lbs. maximum lifting.
• Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting and moving of approximately 50 lbs.
• Physical strength and ability sufficient to operate equipment over rough terrain.
• Ability to perform job under adverse weather conditions.
• Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
• Good eye sight for production or safety of self and others.

Salary : $46,862 - $80,538
