Position Overview
The Surgery Scheduler’s responsibilities include coordinating surgical procedures with multiple hospitals and surgery centers, scheduling and obtaining pre-operative testing, writing and communicating surgery orders, and collecting necessary documentation for surgeries.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring all necessary paperwork, such as consent forms and allergy lists, are completed and on file before a surgery can take place
- Establish mutually acceptable surgical appointment times for patients and Physicians
- Provide each patient thorough instructions regarding pre-surgery protocol, arrival time for their procedure, and ensure they have arranged for adequate transportation home for HOSPITAL
- Review all instructions with the patient to ensure full understanding
- First point of contact for answering patient questions regarding how long a surgery is expected to take, and what the patient can or cannot eat prior to surgery etc.
- Ensures all required tests needed prior to surgery are completed and sent to appropriate facilities
- Responsible for scheduling follow up appointments for patients
- Relay information in a timely and sensitive manner to the ASC and Hospital
- Ensure all CDs are received prior to surgery and delivered to ASC and/or Hospital prior to procedure
- Create OR worksheet outlining prospective surgery. Ensure surgery detail, with CPT & ICD-10 codes
- Responsible for sending referral to billing for verification of patient insurance benefits for inpatient, outpatient and in office procedures
- Schedule incoming referrals for new and existing patients
- Answer telephone calls, schedule appointments and route tasks appropriately
- Additional tasks may be added as needed and assigned by management
