What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at Flameco Industries Inc.?
Flameco is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop and refine the science behind our product performance, ensuring our solutions meet customer needs and industry requirements. This role will be responsible for defining how our products function, how they should function, and applying engineering principles to determine critical component sizing, dimensions, and tolerances.
Beyond product development, this engineer will drive product testing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling, and validation, ensuring our products meet performance and regulatory standards. They will play a key role in understanding customer applications, developing a structured intake process for customer specifications, and defining the engineering rules that enable automated, guided selling and product configuration.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who thrives at the intersection of theoretical engineering, practical application, and digital transformation. This role also offers an opportunity to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to enhance product performance analysis, automate engineering calculations, and improve product selection and configuration processes
Responsibilities:
- Product Science: Define and document the fundamental science and engineering principles governing Flameco products.
- Product Development: Apply principles of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, combustion, and thermodynamics to product development.
- Product Sizing: Determine critical component sizing, dimensions, tolerances, and performance requirements.
- Product Standardization: Ensure design standardization and modularization to support scalable product offerings
- Product Testing: Establish testing protocols and lead product testing and validation, analyzing results to refine designs and improve efficiency. This includes the development and execution of CFD models and simulations to optimize product design and performance.
- Engineering Rules: Define and manage engineering logic, rules, and calculations that translate customer needs into product configurations.
- Rule Implementation: Collaborate with a cross-functional team to integrate engineering rules into a Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) system.
- AI & ML: Leverage AI and ML models to enhance engineering workflows, reduce design iterations, and improve product standardization.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Effectively collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to gather requirements, deliver presentations, and advance Flameco’s engineering capability.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize data analytics to guide process improvements, track project progress, and support strategic planning with evidence-based insights.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 3 years of experience in product design, thermal/fluid systems, or mechanical engineering.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering principles, including mechanical systems, industrial applications, and process optimization.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, technology integration, and business systems.
- Strong understanding and working experience with ASME Section 8 (Pressure Vessels) and Section 9 (Welding Qualifications), ISO 9001, and other API standards.
- Experience modeling oil and gas processing equipment is preferred (ASME Section 8, ASME Section 9, Flame Arrestors, and ISO 9001:2015).
- Proficiency in CFD modeling tools (e.g., Autodesk CFD, ANSYS Fluent, or similar) and FEA software.
- Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and combustion principles.
- Experience with engineering automation tools, CAD software (Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks), and ERP/CPQ systems.
- Experience with AI/ML applications in engineering, such as predictive modeling, design optimization, or automation of engineering calculations.
- Ability to translate complex engineering principles into structured rules for AI-driven automation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with sales, operations, and IT to develop AI-enhanced engineering solutions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and lead a team toward shared manufacturing and business goals.
