Basic Description:
The Controller is a key position on our Finance team and will report to our CFO. The Controller will oversee all corporate accounting functions. A hands-on approach, with a thorough understanding of financial statements and mortgage accounting processes, as well as strong analytical thinking skills are required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly and annual accounting close process, including review of journal entries and all supporting analyses to ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting to management.
- Responsible for analysis of G/L accounts to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the complete general ledger.
- Manage and support the functional area Finance team leads, including directing and coordinating accounting operations.
- Assist the accounting team and issue resolution for all areas, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, reporting and system controls.
- Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary divisions, including their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
- Assist annually with budget & forecast process, tax filings and financial audits.
- Ensure the effectiveness of internal controls to ensure the integrity of the accounting records and resulting financial statements and make recommendations and changes, as needed.
- Prepare ongoing high-level financial analyses, including cash management analyses, as directed by the CFO.
- Other special projects, as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years relevant finance and accounting experience that demonstrates a progression of responsibilities. Previous experience as a Controller in the mortgage industry is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High degree of integrity and professionalism, including the ability to successfully deal with sensitive or confidential information.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
