Quality Control Technician

Summary. Acts as a technician in the laboratory; tests, inspects, and develops testing protocols for raw materials and finished products to ensure and support the company's quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities. Include the following:

  • Must possess knowledge and techniques of basic chemistry and laboratory equipment.
  • Tests and inspects raw materials and finished products according to specifications. Investigates nonconformances
  • Reports accurate and meaningful data. Ensures workflow in lab is timely and efficient, and that products on hold are followed up on in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to run all lab equipment and explain the basic theory behind it.
  • Demonstrates skill in sensory analysis; displays knowledge of raw material sensory characteristics.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of production processes and typical formulations. Able to work closely with production personnel to troubleshoot quality issues.
  • Recommends ideas for improvement in laboratory and other areas; demonstrates the ability to think beyond day to day testing issues. Uses available time to seek out additional responsibilities and projects.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and uses these skills to effectively communicate information internally and externally.
  • Provide input and technical assistance/follow-up to customer complaints and the CRM Case Management process.
  • Reviews Quality Control SOPs and recommends updates.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education and/or Experience- High school diploma or GED equivalent required, science degree preferred. Minimum 6 months of laboratory experience and/or experience in flavor industry a plus.
  • Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have ability to speak and write effectively with all employees within the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent values.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Have some ability to deal with problems that arise unexpectedly in otherwise normal operations, think of solutions, and when to ask for assistance when uncertain.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations. Other than High School Diploma or GED Certificate, there are no others required to start. However, it is strongly suggested that the employee pursue additional accreditations and certificates.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is mainly in a laboratory environment with periodic need to enter a plant environment; occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The individual must adhere to safety and GMP policies of either area when working in them.
